About Thirunellai Village-Gramam
The Thirunellai in Palakkad, Kerala in South India is a small village located in the banks of the river nila/kannadi. It is about 4 kilometers from Palakkad Town. It is part of Palakkad Municipal Corporation limits.

Like the 18 gramams/agraharams/villages in Palakkad Town, Thirunellai also is inhabited by Brahmins who are descendants of those who have migrated from TamilNadu. They are called as Tamil Brahmins / Kerala Brahmins synonymously.
The brahmins who settled in Thirunellai on the banks of the river nila or kannadi, where vaishnavites (devotees of Lord Vishnu). Out of the 18 gramams in Palakkad, Thirunellai and Pallipuram are settled by Vaishnavites, whereas the rest by Saivaites.
Though there is no direct proof of the time of settling in Thirunellai, it could have been a most recent when compared to the other gramams. Most probably the settling was about 200-300 years before 20th century.
The gramam at present consists of nearly 150 houses arranged in a linear manner where each house touches one another in either sides of the public road. The gramam was a more smaller atleast one or two generations before the present one.
The gramam is safeguarded by two temples both having Lord Ayyappa in his divine form as son of Lord Vishnu (Hari) and Lord Shiva (Haran) with his two wifes Poorna and Pushkala. He is known as the Hariharaputhra swammy (Son of Hari and Hara) accompanined by his two wifes. Thus he is respectfully named Poorna Pushkala Sametha Hariharaputhra Swamy.
There are also temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Krishna (Lord Vishnu) near the main temple. The main temple houses a swayamboo (Self born) idol of the lord Haraiharaputhra. It also houses a naga (Snake-god) sannidhi.
The gramam is well connected with municipality roads and are connected to the town by buses, autos for public transport.
Celebrations
It is the celebrations that make any village different from other societies living together. With the advantage of living closely, the community celebrates various festivals as united in character.
Theru - It is the 9 days in a year that villagers come back to their place of origin, and celebrate the theru/car/radholsavam with huge enthusiasm. Famous Personalities
T.N.Sheshan - Born in 1932, T.N.Sheshan was the 10th Cheif Election Commissioner of India. It was during his tenure that so many election reforms took place. The issuance of Photo Identity card, stringent measures for political parties to reduce unfair advantage, those were a speciality of his tenure. Though he stood for elections for the post of Indian President, nobody favoured him, and lost the election. He is settled in Chennai.
